The title pretty much says it all. There will be a lot of farming related posts here as well as some ancient family history and photos. Another family history blog I have is at....

Deer and squirls decimated my garden. All I have left is some herbs, carrots, a non-producing cucumber, and 3 tomato plants. I do have some volunteer lettuce that has took from the lettuce I let go to seed but they are small. I am not sure what got into the potato box but it ate half of each potato. It had 1/4 inch hardware cloth on the bottom and chicken wire over the top. I bought peas, beans, and corn at a roadside farmer's market to have something to put in the freezer. I can get squash and potatoes year round at the market.
Its really annoying when the wildlife raid the garden. So far they are not bothering mine. Considering the hours spent I'd be further ahead buying all vegetables but I do enjoy the work.
Farrmbeau keeps threatening to shoot the deer that come into his garden, but I'd be shocked if he ever did it. I suggested installing a scarecrow, which he's done, and building a deer fence, which he probably won't. For all the time, pleasurable or not, put into gardening, it would be worthwhile to protect your plants -- or so I think.
There are no potato bugs in his garden. Woe to the first one that appears.
Considering the hours I have spent picking hundreds (thousands)? potato bugs I would be better off just buying them in the store. Can't buy decent bug dust (Deritox) anymore.
