Feeding Cows and Finding Calf

Going hands free with the Gopro camera. No , its not a commercial endorsement but I thought I'd post a video of my first test run trying it out. It is a chest mount harness that holds the camera steady and secure so I can video and still have two hands free for work.

Went out to feed the cows and discovered one cow missing. After a short walk into the pasture I spotted her with a new calf. In almost the same location as she had a calf almost exactly a year ago.

  1. There was a bench on the hill where many of our cows went to calve that laid across the main hollow. They probably went there because it was as far away as they could get from rest of the pasture and barn, plus there was a thick stand of young pines in one end of the field. So many calves were born there that Dad jokingly named that section of the pasture "maternity flats."

  2. Thanks for taking us with you when you were out with the cows, Ralph. I was telling Maddy on Saturday that I miss the farm in the spring. Where she lives now, there are lots of cows and she's made friends with them. Her iPod is filled with cow pictures. Oh but she is most definitely my niece !LOL!! Glad the calf was fine and mama looked like she was doing a good job caring for him.

    1. They are looking good although this latest calf seems to have a deformed or injured back leg. Gets around fine but it is bent at a strange angle.
