The World Through A Keyhole

I call this viewing the world through a keyhole. I know a lot of people access the internet with a cell phone. In fact i am doing that now,but not by choice. Seems my meagre "starvation ration" of 50 gb from sasktel has almost run out before month end.So i am reduced to using my i phone as a hotspot to get internet on my laptop. Which actually works quite well, when it works. Ìt took 2 hours of trouble shooting and experimenting before it connected to my laptop last night. While waiting i tried using the iphone to watch a few yt videos and readinng forum comments but as i said, like viewing the world through a keyhole. Incredibly slow and frustrating scrolling side to side and up and down. I can certainly see why spelling, punctuation, grammer, etc. Are so bad on the net. And abbreviations so popular. I hate pecking away at an onscreen keyboard with one big clumsy finger when i am used to speeding along using all ten fingers and thumbs.. it has taken me half an hour to peck out this short rant which normally should take maybe 2 minutes. Stressful too. I neneed a rest now.

    1. Annoying for sure when they don't work but I'm ok now. Apparently I wasn't turning the hotspot off and then on again. Makes all the difference.

  2. Some people use cellular-enabled tablets which is fine for avoiding the scrolling issue but I like a real keyboard. My cellular carrier is Verizon. I added a Mifi device to my plan which is a pretty decent hotspont...which I use as a backup to my really flakely DSL. Elon Musk's Starlink project provides decent cellular for the northern parts of North American but it's not particularly cheap.

    1. Sasktel has been pretty good at holding the line on prices. It been $90 a month for years now and the service is generally pretty reliable. Now that I have figured out the correct procedure to hook up to the hotspot that works good too. So it was operator error but now I'm back on the old reliable laptop keyboard.

  3. I attempted to use the Blogger app on my phone. Not particularly successful!

    1. I like my computers the same as my cars, big and simple. My phone is just for communicating and taking pictures. Anything else is just frustrating and time wasting.
