A Walt Disney Moment

Checking out the latest photos on the trail cam and some made me think of the Walt Disney movies where all species seem to get along and be friends. No fighting or killing. This rather large raccoon is eating a bit of wheat that was swept out of the truck box recently. The doe came along to get her share. As well the magpie was right in there. I saw no sign of competition or aggression. I guess if it comes down to the last few kernels of wheat we might see a fight.
At least they won't be fighting over who is greater, Allah or God. I have not watched this supposedly graphic and violent video yet.

 Not sure if I will. The damp and rainy weather preventing me from crop spraying is depressing enough without watching something like this.

Trailcam animals.

Nothing too exciting to report. Some of the night life in my yard that occurs while I am asleep or watching tv. Mostly deer and raccoons, the occasional coyote. They like this location as there is grain on the ground from when I cleaned off the combine numerous times this harvest.
Back when I had free range chickens they would spend a lot of time cleaning up the grain in this spot. Unfortunately coyotes and my own cats were gradually killing the chickens so they have been confined to barracks for almost a year now.
Cold cold nights and early mornings lately with 20 degrees (F) and white frost on everything. Not the greatest conditions for hauling hay bales home 5 miles on the open tractor but I can't take a chance on the weather getting any better because it might not. 2 more trips should just about do it. Got to feed those cattle. They might be the only safe beef I can find to eat if this news story on beef recalls is any indication.

There Are Strange Things Done in The Midnight Sun

Yes, that is a disgusting rat in the picture. My new trail cam arrived last week and this is one of the first pictures it took. I had seen tracks in the chopped grain bin and had suspicions what they were. Set up the cam overnight and even the poorly focused, over exposed photo could not disguise that long rat tail with its glowing eyes looking at the camera. Funny how my cats live underneath the bin and in the balestack beside it yet they don't kill this rat. Maybe I am feeding them too well and they have lost the urge to hunt.

Now I have a block of rat poison and a conibear trap set up  hoping to catch this pest.
In other news, our mild winter continues with far below normal snowfall. Is this the beginning of a drought? If we went this long without significant precipitation and above normal temps in the growing season our crops would suffer and maybe not even survive. Of course that may not be a problem if the 2012 apocalypse  we hear so much talk about now come true.
Personally I am betting a fair bit of cash and labour that I will grow a crop this year and be around next year to sell the proceeds and spend it again in the endless cycle of farming.
