Way Up There

Recent changes to the rules for recreational drone users due to increased incidents of drone/airplane collisions. Or something like that. I guess it is no surprise that a few careless or irresponsible operators have caused problems and the rules had to be tightened up to affect us all. They say you can't fly within 9 km of an airport which is no problem for me being out in the middle of nowhere. I might see one plane a week fly over and usually well above drone flying altitude.
Rules also state we can't fly above 90 metres. (about 300 feet). I guess that is not a huge problem because for most photography that is more than high enough. But these things will actually fly up to over 2000 feet altitude so you might guess that some of us would have to test the limits.
And 245 feet is the limit to how close you can fly to a building. Again, it is good to live in the middle of nowhere.

In other news, its warming up and the snow is melting. One of these days I might actually have to start working again.

Two Steps Forward and Two Steps Back

Thats what spring has become. Off to a nice early start last week but now back to snowing and cold. It looked nice in the sunshine yesterday but the wind was cold and uninviting.

I guess it was a little early anyway. Two short days ago I was out riding the trike in relative comfort in the near 50 degree temperatures. Checking out Silver Birches where I see I have lost the battle with wildlife. Raccoons and skunks have found their way under the wall of the house and the whole place reeks now. I did not encounter any wildlife inside but plenty of sign of their activity.  The trail in remains under water in two spots making it inaccessible to heavy vehicles. 

April 25 and Finally Spring

Nothing too exciting here. I thought it might be interesting at some point in the future to look back and see how late spring was in 2013. Finally some spring-like weather arrived April 25th, about a month late. Yesterday was the first day I could drive my driveway without hitting mud even though deep snowbanks line the shoulders. The cattle are out foraging through last year's old grass for some sign of new green. They will eventually be back to the bale feeder to fill up. Rain forecast for Monday but for now we will appreciate the weekend.
